I came across this little piece of information in kaplan 2009 comprehensive program. It is about how to guess on the gmat. I thought of sharing it with everyone out there to make life a bit more easier
Guessing :
Whether it is because you're running short of time or you've hit a question that totally flummoxes you, you will have to guess occasionally. But dont just guess at random. You should try to narrow down the answer choices before you guess. This will greatly improve your chances of guessing the right answer. When you guess, you should follow this plan :
1. Eliminate answer choices you know are wrong. Even if you dont know the right answer, you can often tell that some of the answer choices are wrong. For instance, on Sentence Correction questions, you can eliminate answer choices as soon as you find an error, thus reducing the number of choices to consider.
2. Avoid answer choices that make you suspicious. These are the answer choices that just "look wrong" or conform to a common wrong-answer type. For example, if an answer choice in a Reading Comprehension question mentions a term you dont remember reading, chances are it will be wrong.
3. Choose one of the remaining answer choices.
