Gmat Round One - A Draw? 690 Q42/V41 Retake?

took the gmat, received Q42 (63%), V41 (92%) overall 690 (88%). Math felt really easy and was surprised to see my score, guess I got a couple of easy questions wrong. I was very flustered halfway through verbal which has never happened to me on practice tests and I usually scored 44-46 V on practices.

Certainly not a bad score but I scored 720 (Q46/V44) and 740 (Q46/V46) on gmat prep 1 and 2 so I know i can do better

Should i retake? I am leaning towards yes due to the low quant score and underperformance on verbal.

Background
top undergrad state school finance major 3.6 gpa
1+ yr at top investment bank in S&T
planning on starting an internet business (have some backing, hoping to realistically hit 7 figure revenue in 1-2 years), if it doesnt pan out in 2-4 yrs will apply to bschool.
interested in attending harvard/stanford/nyu/columbia

would i be competitive at the schools mentioned above despite the "low" gmat?

The short answer in my opinion is yes, retake if you think you can get the coveted 7-handle on the score, which it sounds like you have a good chance of doing based on your practice and background. Schools are more competitive than ever and while the 690 is a great score and could be fine, schools like to see their average GMAT rise every year or at least stay the same. your relatively low amount of work experience coupled with (for example at Harvard) a below-their-average GMAT might be too many strikes. If you can do it, go for it again.... it will not only increase your chances, it will give you the confidence you need to succeed in a Harvard interview. Good luck.

i definitely think that you should rewrite. you need to remedy the gulf between your verbal and quant score. with a quant score of 42, adcomms may question your ability to handle the rigorous quant work in business school. i remember reading a post on here from a guy that had a 730, with a quant score of around 46, and wharton advised him to rewrite so that his quant ability was up to par. although your overall score is within the 80% range for the schools that you want to attend, i feel your quant score may hinder your application.
