OA:A
both are gramatically correct..

A -- says.. "can have impact" .... uncertainity.. its not sure..

C -- has impact.. certainity.. here its sure that impact is there..

C - distorts the original meaning.

A is the best.

Ok, but why D is wrong.I believe "a long period" is idiomatic too.

I vote for D.

E- Which incorrectly refers to long periods
C- IMO wrong coz we are talking about a hypothetically situation (it is possible) and thus a "can" rather than "has" is better suited.
B - One's, changes the pronoun reference from your to one's
A - It looks right except that "own" is unnecessary, your conveys the message, don't know why we need "your own"
