Network vs. Prestige

by brm21o » Tue Jun 04, 2013 7:02 pm
Looking for a little advice....

After my MBA, I would like to get into product planning or marketing in the automotive industry. Tuck would be my no.1 choice, but I feel as though they do not have that strong of a network within my desired industry. Do you think the brand name of Tuck would be able to open more doors than say, the network of Ross or UCLA?

I'm trying to decide where to focus my efforts during round 1. Thanks!

Tuck has relatively stronger brand name and a very close alumni network. But, their yearly intake is lower and very competitive. I believe that for your desired industry, Ross would be a better choice as compared to Tuck. Around 8% of Ross MBAs enter the manufacturing sector compared to 5% of Tuck MBAs. You may also want to apply to Darden School of business as the number of people from this school entering into manufacturing sector is higher.

Having said that, I don't think you would go wrong with any of those schools. Ross, UCLA and Tuck are strong brands. They will open doors if you can network properly.

I don't know your complete profile to make a clear suggestion. Speak to students and alumni of those schools and make a decision. Good luck!
