Guidance/advice

Hello everyone,

Let me give you some background on me. I am a 34 y/o male, working in the financial industry in NY for the past 13 years. I have worked for the same company for the duration. I have grown from entry level to my current role as an SVP in Technology and for the past 7 years have managed up to 35 technical staff. These have ranged from technicans to engineers to engineering managers ( VP level). My responsibilities are considered critical and cover the domestic US. I interact daily with executive management and up to CEO.

From an education point of view, I graduated from a University in Ireland in '97 with a b.tech in IT. Unfortunatly at that time my focus was not really on my career, but on .. well you know..like what many Irish 21 year olds focus on.... :)

MY GPA is 2.72.

My current career path has reached its peak, However, I also feel that I am just starting. My next logical move is into more of a management role in the technology world. In technology C-level positions are as much business as technology. I know that what i am missing is knowledge of business management.

So - I need to get my MBA, But where do I start. I work 12-14 hours a day, have a handful of kids etc etc. My management have already commited to supporting me if I go down this road. ( By management - I mean both work and wife!)

Does My GPA # put me at a disadvantage, or should i ask - how much of a disadvantage does it put me at?
How difficullt is it for someone who is out of school for 13 years, and never really studied business, to pick it up and succeed. I am committed, however I am also realistic.

Is there a program more suited to people who do not have a business background?

I have many more questions in terms of programs, colleges, etc but i will leave it at this for now

would love some input

thanks all

B-school assumes no prior business education and has applicants with all sorts of undergraduate degrees. Additionally, you do not need to worry as much about your GPA since it's been so long. The farther you are away from the undergraduate degree, the less it will matter to the committee. What will be important is demonstrating success, leadership and progressive responsibility in your job and have a compelling vision for what you will do post-MBA.
