Hi

Please help me solve this question from the 1000 series

. If 6 gallons of gasoline are added to a tank that is already filled to 3/4 of its capacity, the tank is then filled to 9/10 of its capacity. How many gallons does the tank hold?
(A) 20
(B) 24
(C) 36
(D) 40
(E) 60

3/4th= 75% while 9/10th = 90%
which means that addition of 6gallons caused a rise of 15%
So if there was 75% earlier that would mean there were 6x5 = 30gallons

Suppose capacity is x
3x/4 + 6 = 9x/10
3x + 24 = 4*9x/10
3x + 24 = 18x/5
15x + 120 = 18x
3x = 120
x = 40
