Pronoun error

A) The setting for the movie called for a post-apocalyptic future, with streets filled with rusted machinery; lacking the time needed for them to rust naturally, the director had them all painted. -> Pronoun agreement error - Machinery is a collective noun which is singular so need use singular pronoun

B) Lacking the time needed for it to rust naturally, the setting of the movie called for a post-apocalyptic future, with streets filled with rusted machinery; the director had it all painted -> Pronoun reference error - it does not clearly refers to setting or machinery

C) The setting of the movie called for a post-apocalyptic future, with streets filled with rusted machinery; lacking the time needed for it to rust naturally, the director had it all painted

D) The setting of the movie called for a post-apocalyptic future, with streets filled with rusted machinery; lacking the time needed for them to rust naturally, they were all painted according to the orders given by the director -> pronoun agreement + passive voice

E) The setting of the movie called for a post-apocalyptic future, with streets filled with rusted machinery; lacking the time needed for it to rust naturally, it was all painted according to the orders given by the director - > passive voice
