A total of 30 percent of the geese included in a certain migration study were male. If
some of the geese migrated during the study and 20 percent of the migrating geese were
male, what was the ratio of the migration rate for the male geese to the migration rate for
the female geese?
[Migration rate for geese of a certain GMAT = (number of geese of that GMAT migrating) /
(total number of geese of that GMAT)]
A. 1/4
B. 7/12
C. 2/3
D. 7/8
E. 8/7

7/12

Let's say total - 50
male - 15
female - 35

total migrated - x
male - x/5
female - 4x/5

solve it to get 7/12

Let M be the total migrated geese
Let x be the total geese

Male Geese = 30/100*x
Female Geese = 70/100*x

Migrated male geese = 20/100*M

Migrated female geese = 80/100*M

So we have to find

(20/100*M / 30/100*x) / (80/100*M / 70/100*x)
= 20/30*70/80 = 7/12
