co-ordinate geometry doubt

by renascence » Sun Jan 06, 2008 7:07 am
Hi All,
Can anyone explain to me the sol. of the following:

Q - in the xy-plane, does the line with eq y = 3x + 2 contain the point (r,s)?
1. (3r+2-s)(4r+9-s)=0
2. (4r-6-s)(3r+2-s)=0

I think E.

Actual answer is C

nice question even i started out incorrectly in the beginning ..
first statement says either 3r+2=s OR 4r+9=s

second statement says either 4r-6=s OR 3r+2=s...
now its impossible that both 4r+9=s and 4r-6=s if we combine 1 and 2 ..hence 3r+2=s is true hence answer is C.
