Exponent Simplification question

Hi All,

I have a question reagarding the simplification below. How does the second 4^x simplify down to 1 without the first 4^x changing form?

4^x(1/4) – 4^x < -120
4^x[(1/4) – 1] < -120

So lets call 4^x = A

A (1/4) - A < - 120

OR

A/4 - A < -120

so

A [ (1/4) -1] < -120

A (-3/4) < -120

A > 160 ( Please note the change of the equation direction )

we just need to take out 4^x as common as logitech has shown,,,
