Is the answer supposed to be 48? 12 students, assume if each choses only one song. 12 songs= 12 students. Even if only 2 songs are chosen, if should not affect the total number of 12 students.

Therefore, 4 x 12 = 48

Maybe wrong. I am nor sure.

12 songs, each selected 4 times = 48 selections. Each student selects two songs, so there must be 24 students.

Working backwards, 24 students select 2 songs each --> 48 selections, which is 12*4

12 songs selected 4 times, number of songs selected by students = 12*4=48
Each student selects 2 songs, number of students = 48/2=24.
