Question about recommendations

by globalcitizen » Sun Nov 07, 2010 8:36 am
Hello,

I am in the process of completing one of my applications and had a quick question about providing an explanation for why my current supervisor is not submitting a recommendation on my behalf.

The reality is that I am uncomfortable asking my current supervisor for a recommendation because I have only been employed at my current company for about seven months. The company also really prides itself on the long tenure of its employees (it really encourages people to stay in the company for life). Most people average 10 years.

My question is....should I explain that (i.e. feeling uncomfortable given company's culture) or should I just say that my current supervisor does not know me as well as person X?

Thank you so much for your advice.

Hello,

I think it would be fine to cite both reasons. Indeed many companies do not have a culture that embraces MBA for various reasons, and people working at those companies are reasonably hesitant to ask for recommendations.
