IMO A
Eliminate B, D and E for changing verb tense in the second half of the sentence.
Being defeated is often only a temporary condition. Giving up is what makes it permanent.

I'd go with A as well, as it has both parallelism (who X and who Y) and clarity. You cannot use "whose" of a realm, and too many have modifying phrases without clear referents.
