For many travelers, charter vacations often turn out to cost considerably more than they originally seemed.
(A) they originally seemed
(B) they originally seem to
(C) they seemingly would cost originally
(D) it seemed originally
(E) it originally seemed they would

answer-'a'
confused between 'a' and 'e',can someone pls explain me ...

D and E are wrong because "they" is right in A,B,C, as it refers to vacations.
C is awkward. It's between A and B.
A is correct because A is in past tense. It's got to be past tense because you are talking about how much it seemed to cost before the vacation was planned and taken.
B is wrong as present tense can't be right.

D and E are wrong because it(singular) can't refer to Charter vacations(Plural)

In C) The usage "seemingly would cost originally" is awkward. Originally is trying to refer in past and would is trying to refer as conditional construction.

A and B are close.

B can be read as: they originally seem to cost. To cost is parallel to previous to cost. But originally refers to seem, which needs to be in past tense and hence it should be SEEMED(Correctly used in option A). Option A can also be read as: they originally seemed [to cost].
