Nobel Prize

by reachac » Thu Jul 10, 2008 7:53 am
Unlike the Pulitzer, which is given for a specific
work, an author receives the Nobel Prize for a
lifetime’s achievement in literature.

(A) an author receives the Nobel Prize for a
lifetime’s achievement in literature
(B) an author’s lifetime achievement in
literature receives the Nobel Prize
(C) the Nobel Prize is awarded to an author’s
lifetime’s achievement in literature
(D) the Nobel Prize is awarded for a lifetime of
achievement in literature
(E) the Nobel Prize is awarded for a lifetime of
achievement in literature by an author

A and B are ruled out because they have misplaced modifier.

C is wrong because it says nobel prize is awarded to author's literature not to the author.

E is wordy as it introduces author at the end.

So, D is correct.

What is OA?

I have a doubt on D,in my opininon it should be E...since D makes it ambiguous that though the nobel is given for literature but to whom??.
So in a way D reduces the amount of information given in the original sentence.
Please suggest!!

we are comparing Pulitzer with Nobel Prize and for Pulitzer also nothing is mentioned about to whom it is given therefore, in order to maintain parallelism option D is the apt one...........I hope you got it
