114. Ancient Romans found it therapeutic to bathe in cold milk, in strawberries that had been crushed, or in bathtubs filled with black caviar.
(A) to bathe in cold milk, in strawberries that had been crushed, or in bathtubs filled with black caviar
(B) that they bathe in cold milk, in strawberries that had been crushed, or in caviar that was black
(C) to bathe in cold milk, crushed strawberries, or black caviar
(D) that they bathe in cold milk, crushed strawberries, or black caviar
(E) to bathe in milk , strawberries, or caviar
Though I can make out that c is the best choice due to preciseness, I am having a doubt in concept
When do we use a infinitive form of verb and when do we use 'that'?
I know a bit: by definition 'that' is a relative pronoun so used to join subjunctive clauses. Is that the only use, or are there more uses of 'that' in situations such as given in above example
I am getting very curious.....please tell me.

114. Ancient Romans found it therapeutic to bathe in cold milk, in strawberries that had been crushed, or in bathtubs filled with black caviar.
(A) to bathe in cold milk, in strawberries that had been crushed, or in bathtubs filled with black caviar
=> In X, in Y, or in Z.
(B) that they bathe in cold milk, in strawberries that had been crushed, or in caviar that was black
=> Black caviar is preferable to "caviar that is black"
(C) to bathe in cold milk, crushed strawberries, or black caviar
=> In X, Y, or Z.
(D) that they bathe in cold milk, crushed strawberries, or black caviar
(E) to bathe in milk , strawberries, or caviar
=> Missing information.
Some thoughts:
We are between A and C.
1. GMAT prefers shorter.
"Strawberries that had been crushed" can be replaced by "crushed strawberries"
=> This rules out A.
So, C is the answer.

Had not got answer to the query so thought to activate it again
Success is a journey.....enjoy every moment of it
I am not convinced with the answer. So, reopening the thread again.
Can anybody please explain why C is the correct answer ?
Option C says "to bathe in cold milk, crushed strawberries, or black caviar". I completely agree "in X,Y or Z" parallelism structure is correct here.
But "or black caviar" doesn't mean that "in bathtubs filled with black caviar" ?
Thanks for your answers...

The correct parallel form is 'cold milk, crushed strawberries, or black caviar'
(A) to bathe in cold milk, in strawberries that had been crushed, or in bathtubs filled with black caviar - not parallel, it is not therapeutic to bath in bath tub but in black caviar. also it should be crushed strawberries.
(B) that they bathe in cold milk, in strawberries that had been crushed, or in caviar that was black- not parallel
(C) to bathe in cold milk, crushed strawberries, or black caviar - correct
(D) that they bathe in cold milk, crushed strawberries, or black caviar - unnecessarily wordy
(E) to bathe in milk , strawberries, or caviar - you can not bath in strawberries - change of meaning.
Hope this helps
