in D advocating is not parallel with for changes in the married women's property laws

in E treatise that argued for is parallel with for changes in the married......

Its really tough for me, tough the only possible explanation that I can think of is the Parallelism issue.
...a treatise that argued for X ...and for Y..." -- making E the right pick

A treatise cannot advocate by itself (treatise means written material), it can only argue.

Discourse on Women, a treatise that argued for XXX and for YYY.
=> Only E fits this structure.

For D:

=> D lacks a verb.
=> Treatise advocating=> Means a continuous action and "treatise itself can not advocate".
=> D lacks parallelism. In the non-underline portion of the sentence, "AND FOR YY" should have a parallel portion in the underline portion as it has been demanded by the structure.

Answer is E.
