lie detectors

The use of lie detectors is based on the assumption that lying produces emotional reactions in an individual that, in turn, create unconscious physiological responses.

(A) that, in turn, create unconscious physiological responses
(B) that creates unconscious physiological responses in turn
(C) creating, in turn, unconscious physiological responses
(D) to create, in turn, physiological responses that are unconscious
(E) who creates unconscious physiological responses in turn

B - that refers to emotional reactions and creates do not agree with emotional reactions
C - creating modifies individual or emotional reactions and to modify emotional reactions we need a comma between individual and creating for proper meaning. This construction is wrong
D - physiological responses that are unconscious - seems awkward
E - wrong usage of 'who'

IMO A.
Getting defeated is just a temporary notion, giving it up is what makes it permanent.

What create unconscious physiological responses? Emotional reactions (plural) hence create(plural verb). Eliminate B,C,E

Out of A and D, A is the correct AO.
D: awkward.

Take away: Start with Subject-Verb agreement always!! (even-though we know that there is a modifier issue)
