Hi,
C & D are pretty close. Hard to choose one over the other. D sounds better because it looks more polished than C because D uses 'rating the likelihood' and C uses 'rate how likely'. I can't find any grammatical error in either of them.

IMO E as the original stem include may, so the answer choice cant have will

Hi,
When we use likelihood, there should be some event or occurrence of something.
D clearly mentions the likelihood of the event 'that an asteroid will collide'
But, in E, it says likelihood of a asteroid. Moreover, likelihood is itself not certainty. Using 'may' again is redundant.
Doesn't it look incorrect?

I am with D.
E cant be. Likelihood already conveys chance. May is redundant.
Also in E, a scale that rates.. It is not the scale that rates, it is the astronomers.
