Madagascar was one of the last habitable areas of the earth to undergo human settlement, which has made it an ideal site for researching rare flora and fauna.
(A) Madagascar was one of the last habitable areas of the earth to undergo human settlement, which has made it
(B) Madagascar was one of the last habitable areas of the earth to have undergone human settlement, and that has made it
(C) Madagascar underwent human settlement as one of the last habitable areas of the earth, which makes it
(D) Madagascar, one of the last habitable areas of the earth, underwent human settlement, making it
(E) Because Madagascar was one of the last habitable areas of the earth to undergo human settlement, it is

IMO "B" is wrong since there is no clear referent for "that"....and moreover if we find "that" after "and" then we need to have pronoun that parallelism.

that X....and that Y.

IMO E is correct
A -> which should refer to noun and not verb (undergo human settlement)
B -> that refers to what? same problem as in A
C -> which refers to earth
D -> changes meaning. Looks like it was already a last habitable areas when it underwent human settlement.

A: 'which' modifies settlement only not the process of human settlement
B:'that' does not clearly mention of anything
C: 'which' modifies wrongly to earth
D: not sure why it is wrong

IMO B too, it was between D & B for me, I chose B because IMO it is incorrect to start a sentence with 'because'.

What's your take on that, guys?

This IMO is not correct....in OG there are couple of examples where sentences start with Because.

Two ways GMAT uses is:

Because X, Y.
Here X, Y both have to be complete clause.

Because of X, Y.
Here X has to be noun/noun phrase and Y has to be complete clause.

Hmm... this is interesting. I don't think that the tenses in A, B, and E are correct: Madagascar WAS a place which was settled later, or Madagascar IS a place which was settled later?
Have you wondered how you could have found such a treasure? -T

use of "have" instead of "has" in "b" is incorrect it should refer to singular verb i.e. Madagascar..
"d" is correct

I think usage of was is justified here..Madagascar IS no more a least habitable place. It WAS a least habitable place, but it underwent human settlement. Although you are right, it IS still a place, but not least habitable.Makes sense?
