Though most people take it for granted now, the nationwide admission of students to colleges
and universities based on academic merit is a relatively recent phenomenon, beginning only
after World War II.

A) Though most people take it for granted now, the nationwide admission of students to colleges
and universities based on academic merit

B) Though it is now taken for granted by most people, the admission of nationwide students to
colleges and universities based on academic merit

A - active voice
B - passive voice

Moreover, 'the admission of nationwide students' changes the meaning from the original sentence ' the nationwide admission of students'. Although this is not an error, it is better to preserve the meaning of the original sentence.

This is the point on which i wnat some clarity. But both meaning are correct and logical?
The only reason we go with A is to maintain the similarity to original question?

Hi,
Always prefer active voice to passive. That is the primary reason to choose A.

Often wives take husbands for granted - Active

Often husbands are taken for granted by wives - Passive

Admission is taken for granted by people.(passive) ---> action(taken) is performed(on admission) by people
