Hi,

I would like to get a perspective from the various admissions consultants and users, about the kind of program started by Duke University. It's called MMS (Masters of Management Studies) and is aimed to be a foundation program in business. I have read a lot about it and spoken to the faculty. Here's what I gather.

PROs:
1. Program by the Fuqua School
2. Faculty from the core business school for individual courses
3. Shorter duration
4. Easier to get into this year as it is the first year
5. Strong Duke name for employment

CONs:
1. Brand new program
2. Too short a duration
3. No class statistics to follow
4. Employment prospects are hazy, especially for internationals, as no batch has passed out till now

Could we have some sort of discussion here with admissions experts pitching in their views and providing more knowledge/ insights regarding

1. Quality of the program
2. Employment prospects
3. Worth the effort and the while?

Regards,
Str1der

Str1der,

I think you laid out the pros and cons well. The question becomes also what are you alternatives for this year? If you have a decent job where you can learn a lot, then perhaps you are better off keeping it. If you didn't find a job and have a liberal arts background, perhaps this is an excellent way to spend the upcoming year.

Best,
Linda
