Profile:
Early education:

-Electronics Engineer from Panjab Univercity, Chandigarh

-Good GPA and ranked 5th overall in electronics engineering stream.

-Very good 10th and 12th percentages (not sure if they matter), got special recognition for scoring highest in science during 10th standard in state.

Current Job:

-Project manager and Technology evangelist in semiconductor industry firm (> 10,000 + employee >$10 Billion dollar revenue) , French Italian company

-6+ year experience at the time of mba

-International travels and work experience distributed over the years, mainly in France and Britain.

-Worked with people from as many as 5 nationalities africa, europe, asian, american and UK. I can show my French experience with recommendations from French and british peers.

-Prior to this i worked did training and worked as Product Analyst for 6 months before and worked on a air pollution measurement product, currently generates a turn over of $.4 million

Other activities:

-Co-founder and manager of Digital Unify India initiative, a program run in more than 100 countries the company i am employed in and have set up mro than 4 labs in 4 states of India, affectign more than 7000 people.

-Edited, revised and translated course material into native languages for the program and a certified Digital Unify Trainer, training more than 1000 people over 4 years of period.

-Travelled to UK and France for business trips.

Post Mba goal: focus in general management and consulting in technology firms as that is related to my current work and my work experience will come handy. Key factor i would like to settle down in UK or USA. Preferably in UK so in case of European MBA i want to go to a place that has UK placements such as IMD and INSEAD. Correct me if i am wrong.

Finance: I would take loan against collateral and use some savings, but i will require some financial aid or loan from bank to cover the costs.

GMAT score: 670( 49,31) and 660(50,30) probably the reason why i need to work on my application more than others

Current city: Delhi, India
Schools:
USA and Canada:

Ross, Tepper
Georgetown
Rotman, mendoza notre dame
Darden
kenan-flagler
kelley, Marshall

Europe:

IMD (dream school)
INSEAD ( DReam School) january 2014 batch,
HEC paris (dates not released yet)

Also should i apply in HEC now or wait and apply for jan 2014 batch. This could give an early advantage.

Plese suggest what are my chances at these schools.

Hi Sushmita,

Seems you have done quite a bit of research in shortlisting b-schools.Sounds good.

With the given profile IMD & INSEAD would be highly ambitious, but you can of course make it through by working hard on application essays & interviews. You can also target some realistic b-schools with Avg. GMAT range between 560-720 & good placement rate in consultancy like: Haas, Darden, Cornell, McCombs, Emory, Ohio-Fisher, Queens, Schulich, McGill, IE-Spain & ESADE. As I said an avg. GMAT score can make up for by submitting good essays and working hard on the interviews. Most b-schools see a combination of all these things to grant an admission. You can also try your chances in b-schools by clicking to the link https://www.general-ed.com/chances-of-bschool

Having said this, it would be prudent to seek aid from proficient consultants for direction on preparing stellar application and get your essays/scholarship essays evaluated before sending it out along with your application.

Let me know if you have any other concerns. You can even PM me your number to discuss on your profile or selecting b-schools for you.

Good Luck!!
Yash

Hi Yash,

Thanks for the feedback it reaffirmed my school choice and direction in general.

I am applying in following B-schools:

High prioriy:
Tepper, Haas, Emory, Darden, Kelley, Kenan-Flagler UNC, Notre-dame

Optional:
Rotman, Boston university, cornell

As per your evaluation, do you think it makes sense to apply to Kenan-Flagler and Ross (january deadlines) with this profile and GMAT score?
Really interested in Kenan-Flagler program. Do you think it is a good program with my profile and do i stand a good chance?

I have heard from a lot of people that Tepper prefer people with very high GMAT score probably in 700+, especially from Indian candidates. Kindly through some light on this. All admission consultants i asked suggested me to apply to Tepper and Haas with my background and score but most of my friends (studying or working in Business field in USA) don't sound too positive in my case because of score.

Regards,
S

Hi Sushmita,

Your GMAT score is not low and that coupled with a good GPA should not raise any red flag about your ability to cope up with the academic rigors of the MBA program. Some of the positives in your profile are international exposure and extracurricular activities. I think you can apply to Kenan-Flagler and Ross in January. Work on your essays now. All the best.
