Explaining Unemployment Phase

by mohitbaid » Thu Apr 07, 2011 1:07 pm
Hi

I am currently studying for the Chartered Accountancy Final Exam due in November this year. Hence, for the period till then, I shall be fully devoted to studies for the exam given the level of difficulty. I aspire to pursue an MBA from Fall 2012.

Thus, my application would have a period of 7 months dedicated to studies completely. I am apprehensive that such period shall adversely affect my application. Could you kindly help me evaluate the impact of the scenario on my application?

Thank you

Dear mothitbaid,

It is possible that this period of unemployment will have a negative impact on your applications, but it is also possible it will not. The important thing for you to do is to explain the period of time in your applications and note what you were doing during this time. Perhaps you can also use the 7 months to be highly involved with a community organization? It is also critical that you have a plan in place for what you will be doing between your exam in November and entering school the following August/September. The admissions committees will be looking for you to have a plan in place, so be sure to effectively convey it--the worst thing you could do is allow them to assume you won't be doing much of anything.

Good luck,
Lisa
