Entrepreneurial MBA

by jbermanvt » Mon Jun 09, 2008 7:51 am
Hi-

I am interested in pursuing an MBA with an Entrepreneurial focus. USC is my first choice because of the reputation of their program and because of the vast Trojan network.

Anyway, I have only worked for two years but am going to apply for the 2009 fall Semester. I am aware that my work experience is below the average, but I feel that this industry is not one that requires the standard 5 years. Being an entrepreneur is something that is innate. Being in the right environment and learning the process is half of the battle. That is the main reason why I am choosing to apply this year and not wait 2-4 more years.

My question is though, how do I convey this message on the application? My goals of business school are broad because my main reason for applying is to develop ideas and meet people who have similar ambitions. My short terms goal are to initially work for a start-up technology company to learn the process and environment and then manage or start up my own company.

I am worried that since my reason for applying to business school is so broad that it will hurt my application.

Thanks for your help.

Dear John,

Since schools never give you unlimited space to answer the essay questions, you have to convey your goals in as concise a manner as possible. I do not think your goals are as broad as you think and actually kind of like the second & third paragraphs in your post as a good starting point. Keep focused, work hard on your essays, and let your passion show through in your writings and interview.

Good luck,
Lisa
