bschool/gmat confusion

by akoby9 » Wed Aug 22, 2012 6:16 am
Hello,

I've been reading here for a while and finally am making a post. I took the GMAT yesterday and got a 480, below of what I wanted. I'm looking at attending Bschool in Colorado and need some help. Is the 480 to low, should I retake it? I had an undergrad gpa of 3.5 and 7 years work experience. I was looking at attending either Colorado University Denver or Denver Universtiy. I'm a 28 year old asian male. I know that a 480 is low... but is it to low or do I have a chance to get in? Thanks so much for your help

Best thing to do is look at the 80% ranges for GMAT scores for those schools. Where does your score fall in those ranges. You typically want to be at least in the middle (although clearly people get in below that mark).

I think you should retake the GMAT if you want to give a good shot at B-schools. Your score is way too low. It takes lot of effort to write those essays and you would not want a high chance of that effort going waste for want of a good GMAT score.
