How to improve my application

Hi,

I am planning to take the gmat in couple of months. I have a work experience of 3 1/2 yrs. But, i had to quit my job few months back as i had to move to a different place after my marriage. I am idle for the past 6 months and will be so till end of this year. I would like to know whether this period of time will affect my application(as I am not currently working)? If so,what should I have to work on to enhance my application? Will taking up some management related classes be helpful?

Hello,

Yes, idle time will affect your profile. But time not working need not be idle time. What you should do to improve your candidacy in this time depends on your profile, its strengths and weaknesses. You could take classes, as you mention; you also could get involved in community service and take on a leadership role in some activities, research and explore your goals by doing information interviews and other things, and/or seek part-time or temporary work that would in some way support your goals. These are all positive things, but which would be best depends on your specific profile, situation, and needs.

If you use this time well and productively, it will show that you are resourceful, creative, self-directed, and capable -- all positive qualities to convey in your applications.
