Wharton EMBA Chances

by Priya123 » Mon Aug 31, 2009 4:09 pm
Hi,

I work as the Director of Training in a small business IT company. I have 12 years of experience including 5 years of management experience. I hold several certifications including Project Management Professional and various Microsoft, Oracle and Sun IT certifications. A working mom with 2 very young kids, I scored a 690 on my GMAT and have a 3.2 GPA. I would love to know about my chances of admission to the Wharton EMBA program and whether retaking the GMAT would help, as in all my practice tests, I was scoring in the 740-750 range.

Thanks in advance for your expert opinion.

Dear Priya123,

In my opinion, your current profile (690/3.2/12 yrs exp) is competitive for the Wharton EMBA. EMBA admissions is a little different from the traditional, daytime programs. Your experience and rationale for getting your MBA are key and so you want to have a set of well-written essays and great recommendations. Your interview will also focus on your rationale and career goals. I encourage you to speak with an admissions professional in the Wharton EMBA office regarding your background; I do not see a reason to retake your GMAT, but the school will give you the best insight in this regard.

Best of luck,
Lisa
