MBA application process

by VoodooChild » Mon Aug 01, 2011 8:23 pm
[size=Normal]Hey guys this is Varun from New Delhi.
I' currently in my last semester of my engineering and have almost completed it. Thus im preparing for GMAT and would be giving the exam most probably in december this year. I'm targeting a maximum amount amount of scholarship, so should i look for some work experience after taking the exam?
Also, if i go for a job, then should i go for a core job in my discipline only or any kinda job or internship like a bpo or something would suffice?

Without work ex, it is generally difficult unless you have strong reasons like need urgent business knowledge to setup your own business etc (This may not be true, I m just stressing my point.)

What job you work in must will generally be based on your short / long term goal. The reason they ask for experience is not just for an admission factor, but it is to see what skills you have aquired and how it fits in your overall goal etc. So just going for a job without any interest in it is almost equal to going without experience.

Talk to someone at mbadream.in. They will give you some level of free consultation.
Vineesh,
Just telling you what I know and think. I am not the expert. :)

Top MBA programs do not simply look at work experience as hard numbers, they want to see a meaningful career choice based on your long term goals. It is going to be hard to justify if you take a job only to improve communication skills. Understand what you want to do, and then take the best job that you can get in that field.
Good Luck!

To echo the sentiments of other posters I think you need to research more why you wish to apply to business school. Beat the GMAT is an excellent resource. Also, you have excellent MBA programs in India like the Indian Institute of Management schools and Indian School of Business. I recently visited ISB for a conference. Many top companies recruit there especially if you wish to build your career in India.

Good luck,
