Profile Evaluation - GMAT 730.

by brain_filth » Thu Oct 29, 2009 11:52 am
Hi Stacy,

Thanks for the really cumbersome and helpful work you are doing on the forums. The attention to detail you are giving every profile is very impressive :)

I plan to apply for an MBA specializing in Finance. This is a short summary of my profile followed by a wishlist of schools. Would be grateful if you could summarize the possible negative points that would bar me from being a strongly competitive candidate. Thanks again for your time.

GMAT: 730

3 yrs work experience at 2 top-tier investment banks (Interbank Forex Middle Office)

CFA Level 2 candidate June 2010.

Undergrad GPA : 4.0 (BBA Finance Mumbai University)
(only 15 years of education. I am estimating 4.0 as i have the highest grade conferred by the university i.e. First Class with Distinction)

Extracurriculars - Headed the events committee while in college. Won competitions for guitar instrumental and vocal and debates. Have learnt 2D and 3D graphics and animation as a hobby. Formerly a Rotaract member.

Community Activities - None documented but there are a few informally done activities which I could probably mention on the essays?

Wishlist:
NYU Stern
ISB
Columbia
Stanford

Should I be considering any other schools which might be strongly suited to my profile?

Thanks,
Vik

Dear Vik,

I think you have a competitive profile for any school; it is simply a matter of making yourself stand out from similar applicants and presenting a compelling case for your admission. One thing I do want to note is regarding your degree. Many schools will not view it as equivalent to a US 4-yr degree and thus you would be ineligible to apply. Be sure to verify with any schools you are targeting that you meet the education requirements.

I don't see any huge weaknesses in your profile based on your post. However, you do appear to be light on the extracurriculars/community activities. Perhaps you have some that you did not note? or you have some other interesting personal experiences you can write about to set you apart?

Finally, I would suggest identifying 1-2 schools as backup plans as your target list is all top tier programs.

Good luck,
Lisa
