Hi,
I was recently reading the reply to another participant in this forum, and the general advice was to focus on work experience. This is something I believe is also relevant to me since I still do not have any post graduate work experience.

But my question is - What will be considered good work experience for top business schools when banks and strategy consultants hire much less or even worse - cut jobs?

Thanks in advance!

Well...that's a good question but it's also kind of putting the cart before the horse.

Your goal should not be to get work experience that is going to appeal to an MBA admissions committee; your goal should be to find work experience that is meaningful and satisfying and challenging for you...

...Then, if your work experience and the long-term goals (which will be informed by your work experience) both lead to getting an MBA's making sense then great; if not, then follow some other path.

So...at the risk of sounding trite, focus on something that interests you recognizing that, at this point in your career, just about anything is going to be relevant and useful: get any kind of position you can find that is even kind of interesting, work hard, and then start making things happen for yourself once you get inside.

In other words, if you can get banking or consulting (which are NOT -- I repeat NOT-- the only jobs that MBA admissions committees are interested in), then go with your second interest; if you can't get that, go for your third; if not, your fourth...

Does this answer your question?
