Profile Evaluation Required (GMAT 670)

by coolmayank » Thu Nov 24, 2011 8:17 am
Hi,

I have recently given GMAT and my score details are as follows:
Overall - 670
Quant - 51
Verbal - 28

I am working in a reputed IT organization and my total work experience is 4 years in IT industry.
I also have experience as a module lead in my project, and have been involved in communicating with clients on day-to-day basis. I have received couple of On the Spot awards for my performance at work.

Before the exam, I gave GMAT Prep and MGMAT tests and consistently scored around 730 in all the exams. However, my verbal score dipped in the actual exam and affected my overall score. Will my verbal score affect my application or do schools generally look at overall score?

I have applied for the following universities:
University of Virginia (Darden)
Duke (Fuqua)
NYU Stern
UCLA
Dartmouth

Please let me know what my chances are to get into these schools. Also what are my chances if I apply to some state universities such as Illinois, Ohio, Michigan

Also, since I will be applying in second round, which school may provide me the best chance for scholarships?

The schools will look at overall as well as the individual section scores. Your perfect quant score (unfortunately) makes the low verbal score even more apparent. That said, it is what it is and you should now spend your time on the applications if you want to apply in the 2nd round.

All the schools in your list are top schools. They are extremely competitive and as you probably know, you are from a very tough applicant pool. You might want to pick some schools which are lower down the rankings unless you have some super spectacular stories to tell. Lower ranked schools will also be more likely to offer scholarships.

Well sir, we need more info!!!
As has been pointed out many times in this forum, you are a lot more than just a GMAT score (thankfully!). LOTS and lots of other things need to be taken into consideration - your academic performance, your major awards, your community service, your leadership, your extra curriculars, your entrepreneurial experience, the speed of your upward mobility at work, etc. etc. etc.
