Hey guys

First, I'd like to say that this forum is awesome! It has been insanely helpful so far. (This is my first post.)

I have a question: What would look more favorable to admissions committees, taking a class online from a top ten or taking an in person class from an unknown (very unknown small college)?

I want to start building an alternative resume and take a Calculus and also a Statistics course. It has been very hard to find classes that fit my schedule as I usually get out of work by 7:30 the latest and most classes start at 6:30. I finally found a local college that has these courses on the weekends, but I also came across a top ten that offers them online and I was wondering if admissions committees look down on online classes. (I definitely would prefer the online courses because that would free me up to focus on other areas of my application.)

Thank you for any and all advice.

Hi,

Great question! Taking it online is a great option. So many great programs offer online classes (Harvard and UCLA to name a couple) these days and adcoms are quite used to seeing transcripts from these online programs. In the end you should do what is most convenient for you. Just be sure that if you choose to attend the local program in person that it is not a junior college, but rather an accredited 4 year program.

Regards,

Stacey
