Hello,
I am in the midst of applying to 7 of the top 10 mba programs. In writing an essay that asked to elucidate three of my "setbacks" I would like to address my short (6 months)experience in an inside sales position before moving on to a consulting job. A key part of including that experience is discussing how difficult it was to sell on-line advertising to small businesses in the fall of 2008 as a result of the economy crashing.
My question is this: Should I stay away from talking about the poor economy in these essays? Does everyone lay blame on the economy thereby making the reference trite? Or is perhaps seen as too "convenient" to include in an essay on setbacks? The reality was that it was a huge contributing factor to how my career unfolded, as it was for many 2008 grads, and I'd like to not have to ignore it.
I appreciate any guidance you can give! Thank you!
