Is my age an issue?

by deedee_deedee » Tue Jul 12, 2011 11:35 am
I will be 30 (2 months shy of 31) when I start MBA classes next Fall. Is that a negative factor for a top 25 program. I will be applying for FT MBA. I am 29 now. When I apply in September I will be 1 month shy of 30.

Dear deedee_deedee,

Your age is not a negative and within the mid-80% range for age of most MBA programs. It is on the higher end of the age range, but that does not make it a disadvantage. What is important for you (and any other applicant) is to convey your rationale for why you want your MBA and why at this point in your career. Since you might have enough experience (8+ years) for some executive programs, you also might want to include detail on why you want to do the full-time program. For instance, are you looking to make a significant career change and thus want the opportunity to intern?

Good luck,
Lisa
