Chosing Undergraduate

by afzal1989 » Sun Jul 03, 2011 2:03 pm
Hello,
I plan to do my MBA (finance) from top 20 by 2015.
I currently hold a BSc. Hons in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University, UK; but the result is not so impressive - 2.2 ie. a lower second class (conversion to CGPA 3.00).
My other qualification permits me to have another graduation by giving me to final year entry so that I need to study just 1(final) year which i am considering only to achieve good grades to enhance my chances in MBA. I have 2 choices:
1) Heriot Watt University BBA : Subjects (Strategic management, accounting, audit, operations management, organizational behavior, HRM etc) slightly better reputed than the second option.

2) Edinburgh Napier Business School (Financial Management): Subjects ( Monetary Policy, Investment Analysis, Financial Decisions, CRM etc) slightly less reputed than the 1st choice.

I would do CFA anyways, therefore seeking advise as to which option to chose from the perspective of adding weight to my MBA application.
Thank You.

afzal1989,

I understand your question. Since both programs are of roughly equivalent "reputation" I would choose the one that interests you most and/or best aligns with your long-term goals. Studying what you are most interested should also make it easier for to you achieve your main objective: raising your cumulative GPA.

Good luck,

Hello,
Thank you for your promt and informative reply, but my issue is,
as i wish do CFA, the Bsc in Fin. Man. will have courses overlapping, giving me an advantage in CFA, but Napier is not known.
On the other hand Heriot Watt University has some name for its biggest MBA alumni worldwide and I failed to sketch the difference of prestige between the two institutes, its more than a slight difference.
To me it seems that the former's subjects are heavier while the latter's are lighter on the other hand in terms of Institute prestige its equally opposite.
My eventual aspiration is to get into MBA (finance), whichever adds value among the aforementioned two suits me best, but I am not being able to figure out upon what is put weight in admission process, subject weight or institute prestige...
