Profile evaluation request

by dcrocha » Sun Jun 26, 2011 10:40 am
Hi Stacy,

Please evaluate my profile for admission to Berkeley's Evening and Weekend MBA Program.

Gender: Male
Age: 33
Origin: Brazilian
Occupation: Principal Engineer at Nokia Inc.
Work Experience: 9 years, 8 of which in the Mobile Telecom industry. Manager for 4 of those 9 years. Several "Exceptional" performance awards and several raises at current company.
GMAT: 690 (Q40, V44) and 680 (Q41, V42). Botched Quant twice :(
Education: AAS in IT large Brazilian school (GPA 3.3), BS in IT from UMass Lowell (GPA 3.91).
Extra-curriculars: very few. Co-wrote a technical book, musician, krav-maga practicioner, volunteer project manager, volunteer with charities in Brazil in the mid 90s.

My main concern is the stupid quant results from my two GMAT attempts. I cracked under the pressure and missed many of the first questions. I do have Calculus, Statistics, Discrete Structures, and Linear Algebra under my belt, however (all As).

Thank you!
Daniel

Dear Daniel,

I think you have a competitive profile for the Evening and Weekend program at Haas. While your quant score on the GMAT is not where you want it, it is not low enough to be concerning with your high marks in quant coursework and analytical professional experience. Be sure to provide a solid rationale for why you want your MBA, why the EWMBA, and why now in relation to your career goals; clearly articulating this rationale is key to a successful application.

Good luck,
Lisa

I will give the GMAT another try and see if I can improve in quant. If not, I will apply with my current profile and put some emphasis in my quantitative experience and coursework.

Thank you so much!
Daniel
