What about Schools of Economics?

Ok it's all about business schools over here but can anyone suggest any tips on good Economics Schools? I know LSE and Erasmus School of Economics, but maybe anyone possesses any other info?

Different schools have different areas of expertise. US News ranks US graduate programs by specialty. That may give you some ideas. Another way to check a school out is to look at the academic journals to see on what topics their faculty is conducting research. Recognize that an Economics degree sets up a very different career path than does an MBA. They are not particularly similar although there are some joint degree programs out there. Take a close look at the kinds of jobs the graduates of the various schools.

Thank you a lot for reply. What exactly do you mean by that Economics degree sets up a very different career path than does an MBA? Doesn't Economics degree include a wider spectrum of taught subjects and therefore give a student richer knowledge? I mean you should be an economist too because other external factors do count when running a business. I was thinking to apply for MBA but in the end, given my reasoning above, decided to switch to Economics. Am I doing a right choice?

Take a look at the jobs that people with advanced degrees in economics take. They are more likely to become analysts for government agencies or in the back rooms of financial institutions than to take managerial positions. Economics is an academic field, not a managerial one. An economics degree does not cover all the functional areas that an MBA does. Most MBA programs, however, do require one or more basic economics courses.

Whether economics is the right choice depends on what you want to do with your career. You can talk to the placement group in the economics department of your local university or even check out the job openings advertised in economics journals rather than business magazines.
