by clanasf3 » Sun Apr 17, 2011 6:22 pm
Hi all, I have not yet applied to Bschool, and would first like to know what I should aim to expect:

1) Work Experience: 2 Years Investment Banking at Deutsche Bank as an Analyst

2) GMAT 760 (99th Percentile) - 97% Verbal, 93% Quant

3) Undergraduate Education: University of California, Berkeley
GPA: 3.48 -- no extenuating circumstance, just tough engineering courses
Simultaneous Degrees in Business Administration (Haas) and Bioengineering

4) No significant Extra-Curricular activities

5) No Certifications

6) Targets: Stanford, Harvard, Wharton, Haas

7) Post-MBA Plans: Venture Capital

Thanks!!

Dear clanasf3,

You have a competitive profile for your target schools, but also a common one. Your lack of extracurricular activities is a potential weakness for you, so you might want to find 1-2 organizations to get involved with now at a significant level. While business schools understand you work many, many hours as an analyst, there are also many other analysts applying who have managed to be involved in something outside the office. Likewise, you need to find a way to distinguish your application from the many other analysts while also making a compelling case for your admission. Finally, I encourage you to add 1-2 safety schools your list as insurance. The 4 schools you are targeting are highly competitive and there are many great programs outside the top 10 that might be interested in you.

Good luck,
Lisa
