Profile Evaluation--Odds for Top 10

by AndresGM » Tue Feb 22, 2011 2:00 pm
Hi everyone,

I'd appreciate an evaluation of my profile.

About me: 25 years old, Mexican male.

GMAT: 740 (AWA 6.0).

Bachelors: Economics - 7.4/10 (Mexico's grade system). I started working early on and that affected my grades. However, that specific job experience gave me the job that I have today.

Career:

- 3 years as Market Intelligence analyst at a small U.S. based consulting boutique.

- 2 years as Market Intelligence Senior Analyst at one of the Big 4 accounting firms. Currently holding this position. Joined the U.S. market intelligence department (around 100 people) as the youngest and without an MBA even though it was a necessary requisite.

International exposure: Haven´t worked in other countries but I currently manage a team of analysts in India and have clients all over the Americas (Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Canada, USA, etc.).

Extracurriculars:
-Member of the chess team in college.
-Won several state championships and competed in national championships.
-Assistant teacher in the chess extracurricular course.

Community: Chess lessons for children with disabilities. Presentations about bad effects of drugs in the brain to 20+ schools in my city.

What are my chances to attend a top 10 school?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Regards,

Andrés

Andres,

There is nothing in your profile that suggest why you CAN NOT target the business schools of your choice. You should definitely mention about your part time work while studying to address your grades. It looks from your profile that you have some leadership experience. Make sure you leverage the same in your application not only at work but also in the outside work activities such as in the activities where you work with children. At the end, your chances of success will depend on how well you execute your application and how successful you'll be translating the strengths of your profile in your application.

Good luck!
