I wanted to know my chances of getting into ISB or LBS full time MBA

My GMAT score is : 620 Q44 V31

Education : Bachelors in Electronics Engineering(India)- 3.6 GPA
Total Work experience in IT industry - 13 years

Along with this i have done some professional domain related certifications.

I have been working as a software consultant in UK since 2000.For past 4 years i am self-employed software professional running my own company.

Also please advise if its best i retake my GMAT to get a higher score?

Hi,

Thanks for your post. Given the information you have shared, yes, I think it may be wise for you to consider retaking the GMAT. This of course depends largely on where you plan to apply to school. Keep in mind that most applicants with similar backgrounds will have GMAT scores of 700+. In order to be in line with your peers, you may wish to score in this range as well.

While you didn't specifically ask about this, your average amount of work experience is rather high for full time US business schools. I recommend you take a look at part time or executive programs since your 13 years of experience may be better suited for those programs.

Stacey

Hi Stacey

Thank you so much for your response.

Yes i understand my profile is more fit to do a part time MBA than a full time.

However i am not sure how much value does a part time MBA can add?Can you please advise.

Also do you think my 13 years of experience will work against me in securing an admission to one of the TOP MBA schools?
Can you also advise how much of weight-age is given to a GMAT score than work exp?My choice of schools are ISB or LBS.

Once again thank you so much for your help in advance.

Regards

Girish M

Hi,

A part time MBA program is great for those who want to advance in their current careers, but not always a good fit for those who wish to change careers. Part time MBA programs don't always offer the same career placement benefits offered to full time students.

In regard to the two full time programs you mentioned, LBS and ISB. Both of these do have higher averages in terms of work experience as compared to schools in the US. Still, the averages hovers around 5 years making your 13 years of experience significantly higher.

Lastly, all bschools evaluate 3 criteria for admissions, work experience, academics and extracurricular activities. Each of these categories carries relatively equal weight in the decision process.

Best of luck in whatever you decide.

Stacey
