Please advise - GMAT Score of 680

by netbluez » Mon Jul 19, 2010 9:04 am
Hi, I took the GMAT today and scored 680 (Percentile 85). My quant score was 48 (percentile 82) and verbal 35 (Percentile 73). I am an Indian, female, with 13 years experience in IT industry, mostly in project / program management. My target programs are Insead, IMD, IESE, IE and LBS.
I got 700, 700 and 730 on my attempts on GMAT Prep (Downloaded from www.mba.com).
Given this background, would you suggest that I retake the GMAT exam? Would the score of 680 give me a good chance at these programs given my background?

Hi,

Thanks for your post! First off, congratulations on your GMAT score. I know studying for and taking the GMAT is a challenging experience. In regard to your question about retaking the GMAT, yes, I strongly advise you to do so especially given your practices scores. It's important to note that it is not uncommon to score 10-30 points lower on the actual exam than on the practice exams, however, it sounds to me like you have the potential to break the 700 mark which will help strengthen your profile. I suggest studying and retaking with a goal to improve your verbal (schools like to see a nice even split if possible) and break the 700 mark. Perhaps go ahead and set your next test date for after the 30 day waiting period.

Best,

Stacey
