Doing MBA in US after MCA

by dpthimenon » Sun Nov 01, 2009 1:55 am
Hi Lisa/Stacy,

I have a 3 year undergraduate degree in Physics from India.I went on to finish my MCA(Master of Computer Applications) from a good university in India. This means i have 12+3+3=18 years of education.
My questions are

1)Is MCA recognised in US?
2)Am i eligible to apply for MBA in any university in US?
3)Will i be at a disadvantage due to my masters?

Request you to please answer my queries. Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Deepthi

Dear Deepthi,

Any master's degree from an accredited university will be recognized in the US. If your MCA is from an accredited university in India, then you should not have a problem. Since your physics degree is a 3 year program, the MCA plus physics degree should then meet the requirement of an equivalent 4-yr US degree. Your MCA should not put you at a disadvantage unless you did poorly in it academically or there is not a solid reason for pursuing the degree in terms of your career path.

Good luck,
Lisa

There might be some US schools that do not recognize the name. However, they will do the research to determine accreditation and have resources to determine the competitiveness of the school.
