Profile Evaluation

by evanst » Wed Sep 09, 2009 12:44 pm
I was hoping for a quick profile evaluation and perhaps some suggestions on which schools I should target.

Undergrad - SEC school. 3.4 GPA, Scholarship recipient
GMAT - 720 (Q-47, V-41, AWA - 5.0)

I graduated in December of 2007, but I have only one summer internship for work experience (mainly for personal family issues).

I am looking for a Master of Science, Finance program.

Short-term goal: investment banking analyst, or corporate finance analyst

Dear evanst,

You have the GMAT and GPA to be competitive for any MSFinance program you target. Your biggest challenge will be the gap in employment on your resume. It is almost 2 years since you graduated and then there is the time between now and when you start a program. It will be important for you to have a plan during this time and convey your understanding of how that will impact your future job search. For tips on identifying schools, you might visit our sticky on school selection. Also, you might want to narrow your school list to those located around the investment banking industry as networking will be key to landing your job.

Good luck,
Lisa
