Candidacy Thoughts & Profile Eval

by quorky » Thu Aug 27, 2009 9:17 am
Hi All,

Found this great site and have been reading the past couple of days. Quite a number of truly gifted individuals here, with a ton of invaluable advice. Some of the scores just shock me (how incredibly high they are) and rightfully so.

I will be writing the GMATs sometime in November and starting the studying process now. Obviously, I will have to step up the schedule to make a huge impact on my score. I have not done any evaluation tests as of yet, but do know that I will have to spend most of my time on the verbal portion of the exam.

So lets just say I pull through to the low 700s.

Here is profile:

Graduated Pace University in late 2003 with a double Major in Management Science / Finance with Minors in Mathematics / Economics.

QGPA: 3.51
Major GPA: ??? somewhere in the high 3s.

Since then, I have taken a job in the investment management field and have been working through the ranks. After earning my CFA charter, I was promoted to portfolio manager on the Fixed Income desk.

I manage (along with other PMs) ~3 billion in institutional money with primary focus (mine specifically) on Corporate / Agency / Treasury securities. We were featured in P&I magazine numerous times, for our extraordinary performance.

I want to know whether I stand a good chance of being accepted to the top schools. Specifically, I am only interested in Harvard / Wharton.

Of course, I will try to get my recommendations / essays up to the necessary level for these schools.

I also wanted to get an idea of an average accepted candidate to these schools. If anyone knows where I should begin my search, please let me know.

So to sum it up...

GPA 3.51 Double Majors / Minors
CFA Charter
Target score 700 - 750
5.5 years of Investment Management experience (portfolio manager)
Age: 28

Best regards,

If you can achieve your target GMAT score then you will definitely be a competitive candidate. The best way to find out what types of students are typically accepted into a program is to view the class profiles:
