MIT essays question

by rrrhhh » Fri May 22, 2009 9:46 am
Hello Lisa & Stacy.

I have a question regarding the temporal issues of the MIT essays.
MIT asks the applicants to use only facts of the last 3 years for their essays.
I would like to know how hard is that rule.

In one of the essays, my best shot is to describe a long process, that started in early 2006, and finished in late 2006. So, the first months of that process would be out of the 3 year limit by October of this year.

What do you think I should do? Should I stick to the rules and not use that process (look for another issue, although it would not be that good) or perhaps I can bend a little that rule?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

RH

Dear RH,

It is always best to follow the instructions given by the schools. Since your example is in 2006 and you plan to apply in 2009, then it might not be an issue. I think you should contact the MIT admissions office to clarify how specific they are on the "3 year rule", specifically if you can use an example from 2006 or if it has to be no further back than Oct. 2006.

Good luck,
Lisa
