Need Advice - 640 GMAT

by sodlb » Fri May 01, 2009 7:29 am
Hi stacy,

Thank you in advance for your help - it is greatly appreciated.

I have applied only to Nanyang for final deadline- 31 March.
I took the GMAT one year back scored 610, and again recently 640 :( 49Q,27V and AWA 5.5.
Got % of 83.11 in - stood college first
I got 3 years of experience in a software firm, now with a team lead role.
Good extra curricular activities - started an NGO along with friends and working with it since 2 years.

Waiting since one month - still no reply from Nanyang, application status have not changed.
Can my profile make through nanyang ? Can i expect a call from the school..
or should i go for GMAT once more....whether going for GMAT for third time would degrade my application ?

Had lot of questions in my mind...eager to know your responses

Thanks in advance !!

Regards,
Sodlb

Dear Sodlb,

I think you should contact Nanyang to inquire about your application status. Schools usually take 6-8 weeks to evaluate applicants, so it is highly possible you are still under review. Your profile is very common for Nanyang and your GMAT score is a little low, but if the rest of your application is strong, then you might have a chance. I think you should wait and see what the decision is before you decide to take the GMAT again. Stay positive!

Good luck,
Lisa

Dear Lisa,

Thank you very much for your advice. I would wait for few more weeks and contact the school for further info.

one more Q ?
If we give GMAT for the third time, whether it will degrade our application ?
How would schools consider the applicant who had given the GMAT for the third time ?

SODLB

Schools do not usually view taking the GMAT more than twice negatively. There are a few schools that discourage taking the test more than 3 times, but those are rare.
