Please Review My Profile

by James1913 » Fri Apr 03, 2009 5:51 am
I am a non-traditional student with a rather colorful path leading to business school.

I am 33 years old and married with 4 children (age 9-14).

Prior to getting my BBA I served 4 years in the U.S. Army, attaining the rank of Specialist (E-4), and worked 5 years for a retail furniture company. My experience with the furniture company was approximately 4 years store level management positions, progressing from customer service manager to operations manager, and 1 year in the corporate buying department.

I left work in 2003 to go to school full time and graduated in May 2007 from Georgia State University. I was a double major, Accounting and Finance, in the Robinson College of Business Honors Program. My overall GPA was 3.59 and 3.68 in my accounting and finance courses.

I worked various part time jobs through school. In January 2006 I began an internship with a large regional accounting firm and continued that internship full time and part time as permitted by my school schedule until I graduated in May 2007. I have worked full time with the firm since May 2007 and obtained my CPA license in the fall of 2008.

My goal is to begin a 12 month MBA at either Emory or University of Georgia in May 2010. I have not taken the GMAT, but have historically been a good test taker. I passed all 4 parts of the CPA exam on my first attempt and scored 1890 (640 verbal, 660 math, and 590 writing) on the SAT in June 2005 without studying. I feel confident that with the proper amount of studying I can score at or near my GMAT goal of 720.

Although I feel I will be competitive at UGA, I am a bit concerned about whether I will be competitive at Emory. As Emory is my number 1 choice not only for the quality of school, but for location as well, I’d like to hear from anyone that could offer suggestions improving my application package and/or what my chances are of gaining acceptance to Emory.

Thank you,

James

Bump...

by James1913 » Tue Apr 07, 2009 7:47 pm
Just wanted to bump this and see if one of the consultants would please provide some feedback.

Also, I've been considering distance learning courses. I am curious as to how companies/recruiters view these programs?
