Hello,

I studied abroad during my undergrad and completed 6 courses or 24 units. These classes are reflected on my transcript as P (Pass) since my university did not feel comfortable with faculty besides their own assigning grades to their students. My question is this: is this common? I do not want to raise any eyebrows during review of my application. I would really like to know if this is the case the majority of the time.

Thank you.

Hello,

I wouldn’t say it’s common – but I wouldn’t say it’s uncommon either. Grades from study-abroad years or semesters get presented in all kinds of ways, and adcoms know this.

I suggest writing a short paragraph in the optional essay just explaining it succinctly so as to avoid any confusion or misimpression. However, I do not believe it will be a negative factor at all.

Optional Essay? That worries me. I would rather have my school change my transctipts.
