Phew - all that waiting is over! You got the call. THE call. But what did they say? One call, three outcomes. So now what?

You got in! Break out the bubbly! The long journey is almost done. Yup, almost. If you have multiple acceptances (lucky!) then you have to choose a program. Were you awarded any scholarships or fellowships or do you need to apply for them separately? Do the notifications come after you have to let other schools know? They're good problems to have but definitely things you'll have to develop a strategy around.

You got waitlisted. Ok, not optimal but you're still in the running! So keep your chin up and tackle the path forward. First things first, let the school(s) know you're interested in staying on the list and figure out the process. Most programs allow for updates to be sent while on the waitlist so take a good hard (honest) look at your app - what's weak? Then set about fixing it. The waitlist may seem like a blackhole but there are some concrete steps you can take to improve your chances.

You got dinged. It's tough to bounce back but just remember why you applied in the first place. Rediscover that conviction and take advantage of the lessons learned from this year. It might also be good to have an experienced and impartial 3rd party take a look at your apps. We might not tell you things you want to hear, but it'll be what you need to hear. Once you figure out what held you back, you have a short runway to get things fixed before you apply R1 next season. Yup, you read that correctly - R1.
